Michael Maass

Dr. -Ing.

Michael Maass graduated with diploma degree in electrical engineering from TU Dortmund. His research work at the Department of Quality Control (later Qualtiy Management) focused on the use of electromagnetic testing methods to describe non-destructively direction-dependent material properties. 2001 he received his Dr.-Ing. degree for his thesis “Determination of direction-dependent material properties and crack propagation using the eddy current testing method”. After moving from academia to industry, he remained committed to non-destructive testing. He worked many years in international sales at Institut Dr. Foerster and Karl Deutsch, held positions as Director Sales & Commercial at Arxes-Engineering, as BDM Europe for the US company Magnetic Analysis Corporation and returned later to Karl Deutsch again as Sales Manager and Member of the Management Board. Since September 2024, he is responsible General Manager at Stresstech GmbH.

Founded in 1984, Stresstech develops and produces on basis of Barkhausen Noise Analysis, X-Ray diffraction and ESPI hole drilling advanced solutions for residual stress measurement, heat treatment verification and grinding burn detection.  Focus of the Stresstech applications is on improving the quality and reliability of materials and structures in production lines as well as in maintenance and repair, primarily in transportation industry (automotive, aeronautic,…), power and marine industry (wind power, turbo gearboxes,…) and research and education. Above that, Stresstech provides measurement services in their laboratories using Stresstech equipment for X-ray diffraction, Barkhausen noise analysis, and ESPI hole drilling. The residual stress and retained austenite measurements by X-ray diffraction are DAkkS accredited according to ISO/IEC 17025
